Air Quality

Coastal Management
  • Alabama Air Quality - Students demonstrated the probable health impacts of tropospheric ozone to the Mobile County Health Department in Alabama.

  • Coastal Management - Students analyzed the movement of coastal land relative to sea level using NASA and other data sources in Louisiana.

Disaster Management

Homeland Security
  • Oklahoma Disaster Management - Students created a three-dimensional visualization illustrating aerosols, vertical water vapor profiles and their saturation characteristics relative to temperature over the Oklahoma panhandle.

  • Virginia Homeland Security - Students used a predictive model illustrating the effects of a failure of the Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel in Virginia.

Invasive Species

Public Health
  • Colorado Invasive Species - Students assisted a tribal government in assessing the efficacy of removing Tamarisk (salt cedar) to improve the availability of ground water for farming and ranching in Colorado.

  • West Nile Virus - team identified habitats of mosquito vectors, correlated those vectors with vulnerable populations, and created a risk map for decision support purposes.

Special Project
  • Decision Support - Students researched possible Policy Decision Support Systems for the Applied Sciences Program.

  • Portable Cave - Students engineered a computer system to drive an inexpensive, portable variant of a CAVE, a 3-D immersion environment.
